‘THE SILVER SCREEN EFFECT’
18.09.2024 - 21.09.2024

We proposed transforming the Mackey Apartments into the headquarters of a fictional real estate agency called Vapors to explore the connections between real estate and social media in Los Angeles. Inspired by the city's billboard and commercial aesthetics, we rebranded the property with signs, door markers, and floormats. A Vapors hot air balloon, anchored on a concrete monolith built from modular blocks in the courtyard, will serve as a visible landmark, similar to the iconic Hollywood sign. The monolithic structure will also mark the entrance to the garage, which will become our ‘laboratory’ for Vaporware, a media artwork presented as an open-world game. Additionally, our apartment or the building's front facade will feature a projection of the Spatial Diary, an essay film offering insights into our lives as content creators during the residency, thus highlighting the Mackey Apartment's role as a Content House. These interventions will utilize the courtyard, garage, and our apartment, ensuring gallery space remains available for other artists.
